Welcome to Bergli Hill Farmstay
 |
From our 100 acre farm in Teddington we have magnificent views of Lyttleton Harbour and the Port Hills, with amazing sunsets and breath-taking stargazing. The farm is forested and we have cattle, calves, pet sheep and alpacas. A 45 minute walk to the top of Bergli Hill offers superb views.
Bergli is ideally situated for sightseeing in Akaroa, Lyttelton, Christchurch, Tekapo, Mt. Cook and Canterbury. Attractions include horse riding, hiking, golf, tennis, hot springs, hot air ballooning, caving, and many more. It is a scenic drive of 45 minutes to Christchurch International Airport, and 30 minutes to the centre of Christchurch. We can welcome you at the Airport or station by request.

We built our spacious two storey log house ourselves and treasure its simple beauty and relaxed atmosphere. The furniture is hand crafted by Max from Macrocarpa trees grown on the farm. There are three spacious guest rooms and the spa is usually hot 24 hours a day. A full breakfast with Rowena's freshly baked muffins is served at Max's large handcrafted table, looking out across the harbour. A picnic table on the lawn is the ideal place to enjoy afternoon tea or a pre dinner wine. The fruit trees in the orchard produce more each year and bees give lovely rich honey for the breakfast table. |

Rowena is a kiwi (New Zealander), speaks Esperanto and also Japanese because of being a shadow puppeteer in Japan for many years. She is interested in using the wool of her sheep, and the fibre of their 4 alpacas. She enjoys sharing her woolcraft talents with guests making little sheep for souvenirs, spinning, dyeing, knitting and weaving. Max was born in a Swiss woodworking family, and speaks German. He became a joiner, mountaineer, worked as a mountain guide in his early years in new Zealand ,and sailed his self-built 10 meter yacht , circumnavigating the world for five years. As he also worked as a tour guide in New Zealand he helps guests with information and suggestions for their itineraries. |
